MAINE MCDONALD’S® SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR
SPIRIT OF THE GAME AWARD
TEAM OF THE YEAR AWARD
Nomination deadline is February 8, 2013.
AUBURN, Maine (Jan. 18, 2013) – Organizers of the Maine McDonald's® High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games are seeking nominations for two awards - the Maine McDonald’s® Spirit of the Game Award and the Maine McDonald’s & Maine Red Claws Team of the Year Award. Recipients will be announced at the Maine McDonald’s All-Star Games at Husson University in Bangor scheduled for March 8 and 9, 2013. The deadline to receive nominations for both awards is February 8, 2013. Nomination forms can be completed electronically at http://vote.mainemcdonaldsbasketball.org/.
Maine McDonald’s® Spirit of the Game Award
The Maine McDonald’s® Spirit of the Game Award honors two high school seniors – one from the East division, one from the West - who embody the spirit of the sport, exemplify sportsmanship, support and inspire their teammates and coaching staff, and show an ability to overcome obstacles and boundaries. The award honors 2009 recipients Joshua Titus of Auburn and Patrick Thibodeau of Cumberland. Titus has overcome the challenges of autism and Thibodeau has Downs Syndrome.
Maine McDonald’s & Maine Red Claws Team of the Year Award
The Maine McDonald's & Maine Red Claws Team of the Year Award honors two Maine high school varsity basketball teams – one boys and one girls – that have made an exceptional impact on Maine High School Basketball and in the lives of others through:
- Contribution to Community
- Exemplifying Sportsmanship
- Team Competitiveness and Spirit
- Commitment to Academic Excellence
Coaches, parents, principals, community organizations, athletic directors and sports fans are encouraged to submit a nomination form for either or both awards. Spirit of the Game and Team of the Year nomination forms can be completed electronically at http://vote.mainemcdonaldsbasketball.org/. The 2013 Maine McDonald's High School Senior All-Star Games will be played at Newman Gymnasium on the campus of Husson University in Bangor on Saturday, March 9.
The game-day program will feature competition between top players in the state's A/B and C/D Boys
and Girls divisions. All-Star players, coaches, All-State Academic teams, Regional Foul
Shooting Champions and Mr. and Miss Basketball will be honored at the awards banquet on
Friday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m.
